These wasps are a cicadas worst nightmare and perhaps the reason these bugs venture out once in a blue moon. The cicada killing wasp has evolved to just specialize and wine on cicada meat and their corpses are littered in the burrows created in dirst by this clever wasp.What makes these wasps great is they are harmless to humans and don't even sting when provoked. I know i tried very hard to have it done.
This wasp will sting a cicada and when that happens the cicada is istantly paralyzed and will never move again. Its life is done though not right away. It drops the hapless cicada into a chamber especially created to store sorry suckers like it to be eventually devoured by laid eggs of the moma wasp. When the eggs hatch the cocoon themselves into the belly of the cicada where it snacks before reappearing and continuing the cycle. And some people think insects are boring.
