I bring you the sad news that like after 80 years in business the bar in Elgin called JB's is another victim to the bar scene and a victim of multiculturalism in Elgin. many bars have been closed in this area over the years due to changing demographics and this will be a brutal casualty to beer drinkers in the region.
JB's was a nice size if dull stand alone bar in West Elgin for eighty years and its closure will be felt throughout the region. this was a good biker bar and you could always see attention seeking forties and fiftish ugly old white dudes and their expensive machines parked in front of the bar. Motorcycles zombies are all the same being old pot-belly white ugly assholes who know the only a loud bike would cause anyone to take a second look at them. This bar was also the seen of a tragedy as some nut attempted to make national news by shooting as many people as he could try back in 2001. Luckily he failed in his quest and only killed a few people before the drunk ass fuck was over taken by a large crowd and is currently sobering rotting in jail for life. You rarely see mass shootings in crowded bars as compared to other public places across the nation. As a bartender myself for twenty years and current part owner of the Itasca Inn in near by Itasca that is welcome news although this shooting got me really paranoid and on meds back then. I still get sweaty thinking about it and after two years of obsessively thinking about this bar shooting and the death of the bartender named whitey I had to deal with these issues head on. I went to Jbs bar on a Friday in 2003 and my anxiety and sweating was just too much and I left running out of the place after ten minutes. I could not even drive on McLean street where this bar was located in the rare times I had to be around this scary town. JB's bar is closed after eighty years of service.
