A lame toy corner store closed for good in Chicago on Belmont Avenue. Uncle Fun was a worthless store with all sorts of junk that somehow managed to remain open for three decades. It had a few regulars who really thought the place would survive forever but this past January it shut the doors for good. Where will the childish hipsters get their Pez dispenser is unknown as owner Ted Frankel married another man and is moving the store to Baltimore.
Don't shut the door behind you and I will be glad to open the door for Dumb businesses to leave such as is one. Toy stores that are frequented and have a mainly twenty something clientele is pretty weird and from pictures of this owner on the web I am sure he was a quirky eccentric neurotic jackass. Some think stores like this gave the neighborhood a unique look and feel but in reality this store just was stupid and people who will miss this store can just go on Amazon. These are the same fucks that help ring Hollywood to make thirty superhero movies a year. Lakeview will survive the loss of Uncle Fun and at last look nothing silly as yet replaced it in this neighborhood. I really don't think is business even made money and sometimes what happens is that owners of establishments just like the idea of having this store for their own entertainment purposes. Mr Frankel likely had the money in bank to sustain this business over the years and the only way a store like this disappears is when the owner dies or moves as in this case. This is the same issue I am sure for the equally stupid Unicorn Comics in Villa Park where I grew up. The same owner still selling the same comic books and gadgets after so many years regardless if the business is profitable or not. The dude owns the building and God am it as far as he owns it he will put up some cocky rain business whether it make money or not. Unicorn Comics will one day disappear too as did Uncle Fun and then real businesses can take some of these old prime buildings and locations. As long as they keep the structure and not turn them into a strip mall I would be appy with anything that is just not dumb.
