Remembering the old greyhound track

Cecil Brewster
I was passing through my old stomping grounds before I became homeless in the twin Wisconsin Chicago suburbs of Racine and Kenosha. I passed by the old greyhound track when I was hitch hiking to downtown and saw that this rare racecourse has been shut down and is choke full of weeds and clutter. Nature is slowly taking back this land and I am still amazed with all these dog lovers and walkers who only will go out of their house to walk their animal in suburbia would of even allowed a racing institution like this to exist. The taking over by nature of this property on Washington street is similar to how nature took over Rathambore natural forest in India after people were kicked out of the old ruins. Evidently it didn't have the economic fortitude to last and this surely will happen with horse racing as well as soon as the government quits subsidizing its existence with our money. In fact, looking at the old greyhound track is jus a sign of what will come for the remaining horse tracks that these wealthy people prop up for their egos and hobby. I think this was the last greyhound racing track in America and the fact that appear entry little news was out when the shit hole closed shows what little use this property was and how absurd the idea of dog racing seemed to be. Different eras produce different people and looking back at old television and movies I am amazed how popular and loved animal racing seemed in the public. Well anyway it has lost its appeal to newer generations despite a real hard attempt in recent years by corporate media to push the triple crown and horse racing back into the publics heart. The problem is people have more of a heart for welfare of animals and most believe shit like this is just abuse at the hands of wealth owners who need habitual ritual amusing.
