Cape Race , Newfound do and is barely on the map but in recent months scientists and a special bird have been flocking to this area and the answer is a mystery although I bet it has something to do with climate change. Snowy owls are the best looking owl in the owl species and the local folks are enjoying the guests from these raptors who mainly stay up North. Across the map these Owls are appearing g throughout the Northern hemisphere but for some reason owls have been congregating to tis cow town Canadian village. These birds have always been known as the greatest avian nomads and they are documented in a recent Audubon magazine cover story detailing the amazing far adventures of the snowy owl. Some have theorized that more established experienced hunters have successfully taken best hunting spots in the Arctic leaving these other birds to move South. maybe they want cheaper easier living which is what draws Americans to move South. I think these snowy owls making the long treks want to prey on other exotic birds than the usual winter mouse or lemming in Canada. Given the choice any predator would pick a duck over rodent any day as you or I would. These Owls also seem to enjoy the unusual and dangerous unusual landscapes near airports and other places not seen in far North. Whatever the reason these owls seem to be multiplying with nests roosting eight or more healthy fat chicks in this area and Snowy Owls may make an appearance near your NorthEastern or Midwestern town one spring
