I was watching Blazing Saddles for the umpteenth time the other night and was just wondering the great work of Cleavon Little in this movie and why it didn't translate to other awesome movies in the mid-seventies. The role of led man and sheriff in this movie should of lead to a major film and career advancement for Cleavon Little and unfortunately for some reason it didn't. He still was a great guy and made other acting roles although nothing came close to the fame of this role in Blazing Saddles. I love watching Cleavon play that role and his excellent exemplary comedic acting and timing that made this movie great. The sad fact that it was gene Wilder who went on to be the bigger star instead of Cleavon Little is an example of that time and clearly if this movie had been made now Cleavon would be as huge as Eddie Murphy.
Malcolm Little was the pimp and street hustler youth who eventually became Malcolm X. Malcolm Little was a cool dude and it is unfortunate that he found Black Islam and changed into some activist psedo-intellectual religious nut. The man before Malcolm X though is much more interesting and I wish that Spike Lee had dealt more of the pimp lifestyle of Malcolm Little in his movie Malcolm X. Shit. the whole movie should of been just about Malcolm Little before he found this racial radical American version of Islamic values as the Malcolm Little youth is more interesting than all that religious bullshit. Malcolm did learn a good vocabulary and perhaps with an education and maybe on the stage in theater would of propelled him to a film and television career as well. Malcolm did hang and seem like a celebrity at times before the Black Muslims pulled the plug on his popularity and he was about to change and go mainstream
