How Barney Miller paved the way for Starbucks and better coffee

In the seventies coffee everywhere was horrible and dominated by a few corporations that drained more and more of the taste away in order to sell as much as they could. They discovered few complained at the quality of the coffee and flavor and bean taste was dilute to such a spoint that the product of Folgers and others could hardly even be described as coffee. people still bought the product because back then as now the American public is stupid and will buy whatever takes up space in a supermarket. Yamana played by Jackie Soo, made a running point on how bad the coffee was to millions of Americans watching the popular sitcom Barney Miller. Coffee was horrible everywhere and remained cheap in the cheap diners who were quick to make this bad coffee keeping prices at ten cents. As someone who had grandparents and parents owning mom and pop shifty diners I heard stories of discounts they got from bad burnt beans and so forth in order to achieve greater profits. The guys in the twelve precinct would always bitch about how awful his coffee was somehow putting blame to him for pouring the grains into the pathetic old coffee machines instead of looking at the actual product being offered by Folgers and Maxwell House. The cops in this precinct were not really educated to the economics and profit-driven goals of the big coffee makers at the time to really realize the reason they didn't get good coffee was that these companies didn't care about quality and would mix the Arabic beans with other cheap beans to fill up a shipment. Americans soon got tired of this cheap bad coffee and orders for a superior product started coming slowly to certain regions willing to experiment to get a better product. This paved the way for ambitious business people to spread the idea that coffee needn't be the bad shit the detectives on barey Miller had to gulp in between calls on booking transvestite hookers and pantless muggers.
