The hardworking pioneers who made it on their own and committed birdocide on Passenger Pigieon

We always are brought up with the stories of the pioneer attitude and how these people were able to go out in the wilderness and achieve a life for themselves. Well friends I want to dispel this myth today and when you basically have free chickens dropping down on your property then making it on your own is not too difficult. The American settler were able to spread and inhabit mass areas not through their ingenuity but by totally exploiting and depredating the environment all around them. there was an estimated one hundred billion passenger pigeons in  North America at the founding of America and the greedy and overeating western pioneers who quickly made mince meat out the passenger pigeon killing thousand per minute to feed their growing families. it was the spreading and settling of the frontier that quickly made these creature one of the fastest species to go into extinction.
The settlers had it nice and easy thanks to the gargantuan flocks of these birds that would suddenly turn daylight into nighttime for half an hour has they migrated across the continent. The valuable protein that the shotguns of the pioneers would fell from these flocks cannot be underestimated and the birdocide of the passenger pigeon did more to spread settlers across America than any other hunting technique. a homeless person in urban America would have it easier on the American frontier just being armed with a shotgun and having a few ammunition and other supplies to live and roam the brush. Whenever I hear conservative assholes talk about the work ethic of the early Americans and how the pioneers didn't need government one only needs to remind these jackasses that the passenger pigeon gave these people many free meals.
