Arnold Buckley
Will Eisner was a great comic artist who basically termed "Graphic Novel" and is an icon in the world of written art. his book called "new York' is an excellent look at the talent and work of this man as art related to the grittiness of New York circa 1950-1975 is revealed through his comic art which often had an urban flair. Eisner loved the city and his observations are impressively detailed in his artwork and this collection of urban comics. The characters and story lines re quick-witted and reflects Eisner's look at the urban core which was transformative in constant flux and change through the years. Eisner's view of the city is amusing in these collections of interesting samples of this mans incredible work through the years and inspiring many to follow in his footsteps. This man had an illustrious career in graphic artistry. New York has been transformed to an international elite urban place and many forget the different people who once resided in this town often struggling with social and economic problems in their daily struggles and undoubtedly the change that was occurring would of dismayed Will Eisner and some of his later strips showed the awareness Mr Eisner had of the gentrification process displacing the characters he preferred to draw. He also had his own comic strip called The Spirit which a planned movie was in the works shortly after his death. This book is a fun look at the imaginative nature of this mans art work and what can emerge under the pen of a talented individual and how they can write a great quick story about life and observations people fail to enjoy and reflect upon in every day life.
