Professor Andrew Hacker questions math emphasise

Lee Park Kong
Professor Andrew hacker appeared on Ring of Fire with Sam sedar to talk about the math myth and how educators and society over-emphasize the need for students to master and have a practical understanding of numbers. The data obsession of modern humanity and society has reasoned for so long that those who somehow master this very boring and difficult subject are somewhat smarter and more deserving of higher paying occupations and professor Hacker discussed this theory with liberal host Sam Sedar for about thirty minutes. He proposed the math obsession of education causes much more anxiety for children and young adults often making them drop out of schooling or community college education altogether. This is the real travesty according to Hacker which needs to end and he blames much of this math supremacy as a coordinated effort to separate students early into categories of achievement and that math often is used for an excuse to promote inequality. hacker and Sedar agreed that mastering math is no more useful than say ahhh mastering a crossword puzzle or Norwegian literature in the seventeenth century. math is not useful for the vast majority of students and a waste of time and Hacker basically stated that those Asian math masters and tournament winners are only basically so adept at tis subject because they study it some fifteen hours a day. Professor Hacker also told Sedar the absurdity of all these students getting Stem science degrees because there is this false notion of more of a need of scientists as ridiculous because many students who get stem degrees can't even find work in this field. There are not many stem jobs out there and the growth prospect for more is not readily apparent. Another great interview ahhh on the Sam Sedar show.
