Sam Harris tries to prod Neil Degrasse Tyson on racial issues

Otto Jansen
The great deep-thinker Sam Harris had the great cosmologist Neil Degrasse Tyson for an hours worth of cultural dialogue and scientific research information. Sam and Neil discussed a variety of topics including Sam's critics calling him  for being too rough on observing that of the forty thousand people killed a year by terrorism 99 percent of it is caused by radical jihadism of the Muslim faith. Neil told Sam that he needs to use his words more carefully and not paint the whole one billion muslim world with a broad brush as they are not all strapping explosive vests on themselves. neildegrassetyson.jpg Tyson went on to compliment Harris and his word usage as he has heard few people who can talk and represent ideas in the manner a Sam Harris can speak. Harris then tried to bring up race and why Neil Degrasse Tyson rarely speaks of that subject anymore and basically Tyson side-swiped it and gave him examples that race is not much an issue from him as it was when he stated out early in his career. Harris did get Tyson to speak about race a bit prodding him but most of it dealt with Tyson's early career as a back scientist and this is the issue he wants to discuss of his career and character. Tyson even figured that taxis now more readily recognize him and he doesn't get passed over for rides as much. Whether it is his celebrity  nature now or not for him to bring up the subject and Tyson says his role is to speak of space and not social issues on Earth. They both spoke up about the need of atheists to represent themselves and how the historical narrative was for religious leaders to draw chalk of an outline on the pavement and we are all suppose to fit into it not asking any questions or wonder.
