The Koelschip bar in Indianapolis didn't open up until recently but that didn't stop Draft magazine from selecti g this bar in its list of top one hundred bars in the nation. The Kelschip bar is the brainchild of Central State Brewing Company team Josh Hambright, Chris Bly and Jake Koeneman. If you haven't tried Central State brews, you probably should because there isn't much out there like them. The trio are brewing beers using a yeast called Brettanomyces, or “Brett” for short. Most beers are made with Saccharomyces yeast. You see these bars are celebrated by who owns them and their educated and young urban hipster clientele and yuppie neighborhoods than actually being a unique and great drinking experience . For a bar to make this list so shortly after being opened smells of payola and any list by magazines is suspect. I have worked at the Itasca Inn for decades now and necer received any information on reviews of searches y staff writers of publications seeking best bars and so forth. Like many of these craft specialist snob places this bar is without televisions to "encourage conversation, community and continued cultivation of Indiana's burgeoning beer scene," a news release from The Koelschip said. The staff at the Koelschip should be proud for their bought and paid for listing on Draft magazines best bar guide. The owners of Central states Brewery thought Indy lacked a bar dedicated to interesting imports and “weirder” domestic beers. basically media and newsprint pushes for bsuiness and these suppose rankings from these urban bars and create these illisionlatory listings of bars and rankings with their supposed data in what makes their bar so much better. So this winter they opened Koelschip, a 12-tap, minimalist bar with permanent handles for four Central State beers and Ritterguts gose, plus seven rotating options that span hoppy, malty, dark and funky brews from the likes of Jolly Pumpkin and 18th Street. Pint glasses are only for water; all other beers are served in 16-, 12- or 10-ounce tulips. Most of these beers are funky bad shit but are celebrated for being different. the Koelschip is like many bars where freaks are behind the bar with their numerous tattoos and this is suppose to be what makes the place cool because you live in an inequality neighborhoods segregated by race, education, incomes, and age.
