Colin Woodward's disparite America has no spirit

   Colin Woodward attempts to explain in literary form the disparate nations of North America and how they came about in existence with his book called "American Nations". As a connoisseur of maps there are several great maps of the United States in these regional differences and spate identities this one massive nation actually could be seen in the eyes of people. Woodward writes a prodigious three hundred page volume looking at the historical roots of the disparity that exists in North America. As a kid I realized the differences of America and would often draw a coloring book of the United States in a what if scenario of if the United States looked like Europe or had a similar structure of disunity such as the Spanish-speaking countries in Latin America. Colin often goes on media channels to explain the roots of American disunity throughout the centuries and how the political disagreements and turmoil of today are nothing new. The regional power play between agricultural nobility of the South and the growing Northern industrialists of course exploded into the Civil war but the tensions within the United states existed long before America gained its independence form the British Empire.

Colin says todays current social divides and struggles of political unity should be seen in another light and in the fact that this country is made up of several countries without a fundamental  central unity order. Any large country such as the United States has region al and cultural differences marked by the vast stretchiness of the land area and clearly Colin Woodward or another great writer can write a similar book of the divisiveness of ahhh a China or an India.
