John Leguizamo is a playwright, teacher, social critic, activist, anarchist, clown, actor and comedian and a graphics novel book looks at the time and life of this Colombian-born actor. From arguing with al Pacino about how to say lines to being bitch slapped in continuous slaps by Sean Penn while filming Casualties Of War, this book pretty much shows the teen reader how Liggy overcame his barrio upbringing and became an actor reading lines with Hollywood's big boys. Leguizamo found the love of his life and other family problems with his elders is described throughout this book as his father disowned him for using his son using his dramatic eccentric family into his comedy acts.
Leguzamo also was n that pathetic drag queen movie with Wesley Snipes and Patrick Swayze and the drama of this movie set is described in the book "Ghetto Klown". The strained relationship that Leguizama has with his father reverberates with the readers as people realize these Hollywood actors and stars actually had in some cases humble backgrounds and the reluctance of their families to buy into their dreams. John seems to have written a number of books and many of them seem to have Latin angles of suppression and oppression which is typical and what ne would expect from an insider in Hollywood such as John Leguizama.
This book is beautiful illustrated by Christa Cassano and Shamus Beyale and is an entertaining look and read on the beginnings and career of this popular stand up comedian and actor and aspiring professor of Colombian-American studies. perhaps one day liggy can explain why Venezuela sucks at soccer and plays the Yankee gringo sport of beisbal.
