Otto and Eric reflect on this summers Pokemon Go obsession

Todays discussion is between two of our extreme staff writers of social criticism as they discuss thisnew Pokémon Go phenomena sweeping the country. Otto Jansen brings years of playing both video and board games into the picture while our Eric Ericson is a big critic of the mindless numbness of young brains today in America

Otto Jansen: Pokémon Go is a cult game and brings back this generations love of all these Pokémon and Japanese anima back in the nineties. How it took so long for social media to catch up to the popularity of this game until July of 2016 is pretty surprising.

Eric Ericson  : this generation was already addicted to the god dam mobile phone so it was a matter of time this would develop. I am just surprised George Lucus and Star Wars didn't come up with something big in the mobile reality mapping game.

OJ:   This gets kids out of their homes and without a doubt this game has been able to come about through the daily boredom of suburban living and this is something I have yet to read concerning the phenomenon of this Pokman Go game. It gives all these unemployed youth something to do outside of their house and away from their helicopter and strict parents.

EE:  Most youth would prefer looking at any screen than working and looking at strangers faces at some crappy service industry job. for this you cannot blame them and Pokémon Go gives these young losers an objective and a hope. Eric Ericson

OJ  : one can imagine these companies will go to get these kids hyped up and extreme looking for these Pokmon characters. Some kids fell off a cliff looking for one and maybe by making this game harder and more challenging it will increase the popularity. I still say this Pokémon Go activity will end come the cold weather.

EE   : I would agree although I think this thing is here to stay in the warm months. Kids need an excuse to get out and explore and this is something all kids use to do before most of America moved into these inaccessible roundabout unwalkable suburban living arrangements. Kids need to be ferried about and chauffeured around to their hockey practices or Irish dance lessons.

OJ  Pokémon Go also must mean the video game industry as we know it is going down the drain. it seems like men are mostly playing this game from what I see in public and this can be an indicator that Sony, Nintendo, and Microsoft game consoles are getting a bit stale. The Pokémon Go popularity shows that traditional video games are slumping if so many people need this distraction.

Eric Ericson:   I bet somewhere that Mark Zuckerberg is a bit pleased as this also gives credence that virtual reality gaming may indeed be a hit. In a few years or maybe months you will see these same idiots on the street daily with VR gear over their domes.

Otto Jansen: I have not seen may old or fat people play this game.

Eric Ericson: yea that's an observation and this game does give people with energy a reason to get up and move about on their street. it is good to see people walk around a neighborhood especially the suburban communities that you only see people walking dogs move about. I  this aspect the game is good.

OJ  The Pokémon Go may have peaked and this game was a desperate attempt to get more people back into spending on mobile gaming which has been struggling of late. This game may spawn many future imitators and games of sudden appeal but all of them will fizz like a pepsi can just opened in a summer day.

EE  :  The characters here are ugly and few would actually need to look at the thing they downloaded. The Pokémon Go phenomenon is basically another excuse for this generation to be different and quirky trying to out do other generations and being more eccentric and neurotic.

OJ  This generation of people into Pokémon Go are bizarre in nature and freaks on a leash.  Expect to see in ten years an angry birds type game where people go out and do some weird shit like throw fruit at one another or play play bird tag. Pokémon Go is like so back there that it took a decade for this internet age game t come out in verticality. don't be surprised to see other retro followings to be reborn.

EE  well you see it a bit with these barcodes popping up. People want to play retro games even if they didn't grow up with playing as a lad.

OJ

OJ  its only a matter of time before angry Birds and other franchises develop software and mobile gaming similar to Pokémon Go and I predict you will have a bird watching game of some sort tracking real birds or virtual odd species and new characters in the Angry birds world.

EE:  That is just what the world needs is competition with Pokémon Go. This game will be a menace and is here to stay and will bring about imitators of all types for the young to stare at and be enthrawed at instead of being of the real world.

OJ  There may have been some sinister ploys though under the guise of Pokémon Go and this may have been a army of hackers planning on a purge some day of older people and their properties.

EE  yes that thought came to my mind too Otto. These people walking around on their phones. what were they really doing?
