I went through my old movie collection the other day and dusted off the Musters movie having remembered buying it in a Wal-Mart or Save Mart bin for a few bucks some moons ago. I think this DV has been collecting dirt for ten years and I decided to view it as the Munsters were always one of my favorite programs. Herman Munster was the star of the series and the TV show was much better than this dismal movie as I was reminded why I haven't watched this shit for such a long time. I trashed this movie immediately watching it as I would not allow this process to repeat itself ten years down the line. Herman Munster and his performance was atrocious in the movie " Munster Go Home" and this movie was so bad nothing like the TV show with the cool house, props, and story-lines. the house at 1313 Mockingbird lane makes no appearance in this movie as Herman and his ugly vampiric wife make travel to Europe to claim some inheritance or something. Eventually Herman gets caught up in some family rivalry and there was bad acting throughout the movie and an unitresting race car scene at the end. There was none of the clever sit nor charm that had made this two season mid-sixties sitcom beloved even to this day.
an performance that seems to indicate Fred Gwyne knew this thing and all this make up was coming to an end. Herman was so dismal and unfunny I wondered if even these were the same actors and character which they were except for the usual often changing character for Marilyn. The Marilyn in this movie was really bad and apparently they couldn't afford to pay a little extra jingle for Pat Priest to appear in this movie. Watching the Munsters without a laugh track or their home was difficult as well and I wonder why these shits decided to make a movie based on a popular TV show so unlike the actual program. The characters seemed off tied as well as maybe the transition to film directing was somewhat more tedious and long as compared to a television program production and on set. The color issue too is a distraction as well when watching the great TV program in black and white all of the time and this bad movie reminded me of the awful remake of the Munsters in the eighties that I believe aired on NBC. The Munster movie and eventually the TV show ended because of Herman's uninspiring perfomance in Munster Go Home and movie audiences realized that without the laugh track this monster movie was not funny and loyal follower ship of the series waned and became zilch.
