Many Massachusetts high schools still have the racist native American nickname being ironic as it was one of the first states to chase indigenous people out of the state and steal their land. a new Massachusetts bill being heard in the state house would effectively ban the use and term of Native American people as mascots and last Tuesday a public hearing of this issue drew vocal opinion. The dirty rural backwards backwater town of Tewksbury is fighting vehemently this proposal as the school district is proud of the tradition of calling the name of their teams redmen,
which along with redskins is perhaps the most egregious of the offensive Indian-type mascots and names. The callous use of this redman term through the years if often disturbing and it seems the most backwater rural areas are the ones most vociferous in retaining the use of defeated and demoralized minorities who once ruled and controlled these lands. The name has been uses and so overused in this area through the years that people are indifferent to the feelings of others which this logo is suppose to represent and perhaps this school should change their nickname to represent themselves and call the team land steelers of Pilgrims. this bill wold be a big step and hopefully the beginning from other states joining in and ending this pathetic tradition and attempts to escape racism and the past with mockery and imagery not of the choosing of the Native Americans it is suppose to represent. This new bill comes off the heels of the California 2015 law signed by California Governor Jerry Brown making it the first state to ban the term redskin form being used by any public school. I would say that Redman, Braves, Savages,Chiefs, Indians, and Black Hawks all be part of the same ban and termination of ideology as a appropriate terminology for a God dam sports team.
