Alex Reiger worried about Uber and self-driving cars taking ovr the streets

  Poor Alex Reiger
The New York city Taxi driver is a veteran of the industry and one of the main taxi drivers many struggling drivers and artists go to for advice just about on every topic. Alex worries about the taxi industry and where these co-workers will go and be employed in the future as unlike most urban taxi drivers Alex is educated enough and read s many business  magazines  while in the garage waiting and loitering for hours between shifts.
Alex spends as much time in the garage getting belittled by his dispatcher boss and Alex Reiger knows there will be a day that  this no longer will be the case. It is tiring to continue to take bullshit form Louie DePalma his boss and Alex sees Uber and Lyft and eventual displacement of taxi drivers as a good thing potentially in the future. No longer will drivers get beat robbed and shot as Alex's co-worker Bobby often has to put his hands up saying don't shoot as he insists on driving to the Bronx and Brooklyn's shadier areas instead of ignoring the call and dangers of venturing and answering dispatch towards those rough districts.
No longer will drivers have to cough up a buck to crooked taxi dispatchers who break pay phones and then take messages requiring payola to get what may be important calls. No longer will driver shave to dig deep into their own packets to make up shorts in cash receipts or when passengers bolt the taxis before paying. The taxi industry is indeed changing through technology and drivers will be replaced not with self-driving cars but actual robot talking automobile much like the stupid seventies movie Herbie the Love Bug.  The taxi occupation will forever be transformed much like the railroad transformed the nation in general and few will actually work in the transportation people moving industry leaving hundreds of thousands employed right now as a driver around toe world to seek other occupations and ways to make a living.
