I have the sad unfortunate news to bring that the Milwaukee house bar called the Sly Fox is kaput and no longer a drinking option for Milwaukeans on 38th street. The Sly Fox is another victim of demographics as many Milwakeans coming into this neighborhood are form the Chicago and ghetto hood whose weekend habits consist of spending money of grass instead of booze. This bar is the latest of cool run down dive bars disappearing in the Midwest as Chicago once had thousands of these places now replaced with Walgreen's and if Wal-Mart and Dunkin Donuts had their opportunities many more shot joints would disappear into the abyss.
This bar was a rare place for locals to enjoy and meet their neighbors and the Sly Fox was an odd bar where Whites and Latinos congregated in the same tavern and people got along with each other but it was the increasingly black and dangerous ghetto expanding that really doomed this place. It is really a shame as this was an old school bar and I was lucky enough to place a visit to this unique bar and see some of the rowdiness of it as I explored ideas and concepts for the bar I manage in Itasca ,Illinois right off Irving Park Road next to tree Guys Pizzeria. I get nostelgic for bars that resemble the old \Itasca Inn and hopefully a new owner or investor gains claim to this spot and refurbishes opening up this building as a bar in which it always should remain and belongs in Milwaukee.
