The largest sugar and snack companies are not use to having government tell them what to do but in Mexico a new tax intended to reduce consumption will hit them hard. mexico has become home to the worlds mosr obese as junk food companies have made their mark in this society. The world's biggest food and drink companies though know the scam is up as the fight against sugar consumption and abundance will hit other markets after mexico's brave move. mexico's lower house has passed an excise tax on packaged food after passing a similar one on sugary soft drinks. The yankee company from the former Confederacy state of Georgia called Coca Cola will be particulary upset at thesenew taxes. Mexico is a large international market for these products. In Hungary after a few years the new taxes does appear to be having an affect on the habits of the public. Seven out of ten Mexicans are Gordo and fat. They look disgusting and it is a direct result of their poor choices and eating habits and the country has long held the title for highest cases of diabetis. it is great to see a government finally take steps to persuade and put pressure on these multi-national companies that force products totally not to the benefit for society. A third of mexican children are gordo and fat and raising them to have an addiction to coca cola will not help them in the long run. People cannot make wise decsisions oncases like this and need government to step in and enforce penalties and lower profits on those multi-nationals that are part of the problem. Now after that we can focus on the domestic food in Mexico.
