Passing of sorry tradition of ball hawks at Wrigley Field a good thing

Guy Baldwin

The expansion of Wrigley Field will have one positive outcome for me and others who were disgusted by the ball hawk tradition and attention media gave them at times. The thought of grown men in t shirts and shorts waiting for a chance to catch a fly ball from one of their heroes was a total disgrace and joke. many of these men were in their forties and fifties and seeing them over the years outside of Wrigley Field was like I said disgraceful. Some of these ball hawks have been in reports lately speaking about the rarity of their craft nowdays as it gets more rare to have a ball hit outside of the ballpark since major remodeling over recent years. One nimrod in Elmwood Park claims to have four thousand balls in his basement from collecting over the years and yes if your a greedy businessman having others make you money you might have plenty of time to hang around outside the North side ball park. These guys are losers and the quicker they expand the Ball Park or build a new one somewhere and these guys disappear along with their hobby the better the world will be. The fact that geeks could easily get home runs was a sign of how old and small Wrigley Field was over the years and this tradition is all about over thankfully.Ballhawks%20chase%20home%20runs%20at%20Waveland%20and%20Kenmore%20during%20batting%20practice%20before%20the%20Cubs%20and%20Cardinals%20game%20Aug.%2016%20at%20Wrigley%20Field.%20%28Brian%20Cassella/Tribune%20photo%29
