Roadhouse 66 burned down

Baxter Lomax

A popular Wrigley ville bar and a couple of other businesses burned down last week and foul play is suspected. There was a God awful Hookah bar and the fire started in that business spreading to the bar Roadhouse 66 and also destroying Thai restaurant on the popular Clark Street strip. there is no doubt that some corporate eyes have eyed this neighborhood and they have long been stymied by stubborn owners and a youthful neighborhood that does not want their fucking CVS and ugly suburban style strip mall. I am sure this is some fraud insurance fire and they will attempt to turn this lot into an ugly strip mall. This has occured in Chicago's and other suburban areas for a long time and is the best way for greedy developers to get their mitts into a nice urban walkable community. I often think try York and his Itasca Inn is due for a fire some time on Irving park Road. Nothing makes me more ill than to see old building burn down and if this was an accident these hookah lounges need to be examined everywhere. there was no reason for these old beautiful buildings to be burned down and city planners must be very careful to rebuild and replicate what was there. I had the fortune of going to this Roadhouse bar one time and it was a nice little place. I am sure the owner resisted attempts for a buyout and the reason you don't see Wal Marts or Walgreens in this neighborhood is because you had people who cared about the look of the neighborhood and didn't white flight long ago. One of the ways sprawl advocates are able to destroy neighborhoods and attempt the process of suburbanization of the cities is through destructive opening like this. Clark Street and the Wrigley area have really got to be aware of the corporate menace that wants to penetrate their neighborhood with box stores.
