Eric Garcetti knows the future in this country and it does not involve the automobile. Perhaps no city except for Detroit has been more stuck with auto grid like sprawling streets hat makes commuting and living a total hell. Mayor Garcetti is another mayor that realizes the future will be beyond cars and the carbon emitting destruction it spreads through the atmosphere. Perhaps no city more than los Angeles has realized the problem with smog more than this metropolis.
Mayor Garcetti also realizes that
an important public transportation network is necessary for the future infrastructure of a great city. With this in mind this man has been leading and helping Los Angeles spend more in actually building a modern day public transportation system for the residents of Los Angles and so people do not have to be stuck driving and SUV all over for a 7 /11 trip. LA is planning on expanding their train system even more in the future and more cities need to follow this lead and finally have fast compact trains reaching the outer suburbs for these residents to have easier access to the lifestyle and opportunities only a big city can offer.
Suburban sprawl and automobile are part of an aging infrastructure that is no longer affordable or desirable for many young Americans and immigrants. The only people who live there are middle class members that can't afford the costs of a city with their choice to raise families, poor immigrants, or really old people one step away from the friggen grave. The suburbs are way too costly to repair nor afford for this country and you will see most of these communities whither away as driving becomes too expensive and they have no alternatives or mayors that actually get it like Eric Garcett
There are just too many people delusional and ignorant on the facts that driving trucks as an everyday out in the rural boondocks and suburbs and their leisure activity of driving motorcycles just for the sake of being seen will be coming to an end. These folks will have to learn to buy a bike and actually use their own energy to move about instead of spreading their legs under an engine and have the machine do all the work. pretty much this describes the problem with modern man these days and why they have destroyed the environment in their quest for growth and easy transportation and access across this nation.
