The sky is not the limit for Neil De Grasse Tyson

  Neil De Grasse Tyson gives a brief story how he grew up in the tough Bronx to become Americas most renowned Astrophysicist. I enjoyed this book and it is mostly about him and not the stars as his other books are though he does get scientific often and shares his journey into how he became head of the Hayden Planetarium. As host of the Cosmos Neil seems to get bigger and bigger and more people are getting to know who this man is who keeps battling the silly creationists and their cross religious agenda. Basically Neil had an threat in astronomy early in life and recall show people tried to steer him away from this profession as it were an unreachable unrealistic goal and profession. What I got up of this book was the importance of families allowing and spending money on a kids dream for camps and so forth if they show a remarkable interest and talent for the subject. Far too many parents are wiki g to spend dough on sports for their child yet shortchange them on other educational ventures that are far more important in life. Mr Tyson was lucky enough to have a strong social family background willing to invest in their child's scientific inquisitive goals. Sports played a role Tyson's competitive nature as he was also interested in wrestling. Neil talks a bit about society's illiteracy in scientific and one must wonder how many parents unmotivated role in this plays for this astonishing fact in America. Perhaps if television  played a more appropriate cultural role in exposing the importance of science this would not be the case and instead we get endless,mindless reality and crime shows. Corporations that fund the networks really don't want people to be creative or smart just to buy their dam products. A more impressive reality programming wold actually have high school science fairs and educated kids be the stars instead of people who sing and dance sexy and that is the real reason for the dumming down of America in a toxic environment that promotes irresponsible subjects and themes for kids to view. Obviously Neil De Grasse Tyson is a rare exception of this and hopefully will motivate many more kids in the Bronx and elsewhere to reach for the stars to be a star in a more important role for society. "The Sky Is Not The Limit" is a good autobiography of Neil's early years and how one a out becoming a famous rare well known scientist in the United States.
