Target is closing is Canadian adventures as they lost millions trying to expand their big-box presence North. JC Penny announced the other day that they were closing many massive stores leaving municipalities with empty structures likely to be converted to really cheap flea-markets that only a Mexican would shop. best Buy announced a massive decline in revenue the other day for its same store sales and as I always predicted is well on its way to becoming like Circuit City. Wherever one looks the writing is on the wall for big-box stores and the shitty malls that they reside in and malls in general will see a major decline unless they are the real upscale ones where women can afford seven hundred dollar shoes made by Italian designers.
This is really no shame as it is malls that helped shape the infrastructure and boredom of suburbia an middle-class people left the excitement of cities in a place where religion and their values would raise their kids more they they felt appropriately met their standards. The mass suburbia sell-off to middle America who thus lost out on increased land prices and speculation in urban centers hit folks hard and now they are the ones in decaying neighborhoods and bankrupt villages home to more gas stations and strip mini-marts than they can deal with. The obvious sign that suburbia is doomed is the relentless immigration used to bring in religious and fully neo-liberal free market Mexicans and Indians foolish enough to invest in these communities joining the gray heads that helped create these potholes of society. Many mexicans will eagerly work to build their Mexican dream and house to retire in their own countries while using our resources to get free education for their kids who will put it to little use.The decline of the big-box concept will spell doom and decline of their values and how they felt a sprawl community should look and resemble and for this the fall of the shopping mall is a positive sign. The quicker these strip malls and shopping centers are allowed to fail the quicker that rebuilding and designing these communities to be more urban and upscale and what the future generations will desire will improve the landscapes and vibe of areas known as suburbia which was built on the concept of cheap land and ugly structures.
