Chicago cabbies once again tried to extort the public and strike angry against new ruled that allows Uber drivers to compete and pick up fares at the airport. the cab drivers were hoping to spread a city wide strike of all drivers starting at 6 a.m., to register objection to changes Mayor Rahm Emanuel has proposed for the for-hire surface transportation industry. Those include a proposal to allow ride-booking firms like Uber to expand their services at the airports and McCormick Place and other places to compete against their monopoly. ride sharing programs are gaining and more successful because people prefer the alternative and the strike just can't add this feeling. Cab drivers have long taken their job lightly often treating and abusing passengers both physically and verbally and ride share programs offer people an alternative than the same old broken system relying on cheap migrant labor from the third world.
The Taxi strike failed miserably as once again militant drivers tried to slow the gains and opportunities of Uber and Lyft alternatives that offer a speedily way for people to get the drivers of their choice instead into some random cab. There appeared no shortage of taxis on Thursday the day of the strike and indeed part of the problem is that there is too many cabs in this city. 
I am often amazed when I go into Milwaukee and other large cities and how much fewer taxis they have and the reason Chicago has so many is because of the willingness of government to allow so many of these unnecessary drivers to make jingle. the drivers also take advantage of tax breaks and so forth registering as an independent contractor and the taxi scam in new York and Chicago needs to be more exposed. Most of these taxis drive around empty handed and perhaps part of the rpblem they bitch about not making money is that there are too many God dam of them driving in circles.and cluttering the streets of Chicago. there never was nor a need for so many taxi cabs in Chicago and the few that rely on them now have a better alternative then getting into a car with someone born in the fucking Osama bin Sudan.
