Modern day comic artist Sonny Liew looks at the Singapore comic legend Charlie Chan Hock Chye whose career as a comic strip legend spanned half a century and was in a tulmtoulus era for Chinese Malaysia and eventually swath creation of Singapore. Sonny Liew tries to fool people and for a few moments I really thought there was a Singapore comic artist in the fifties trying to cover the political upheaval as Singapore became independent of both Britain and then eventually Malaysia but in fact thee is no old man who couldn't make a living from comic drawing back in the sixties and seventies. Sonny Liew imagines a role model comic genius that gave inspiration for future generations of Chinese from the post war turmoil of South East Asia and Sonny Liew envisions a comic artist in Chan Hock Chye who was quite radical in his beliefs for a just society is represented in his artwork which of course would never been allowed in sixties era Singapore which was battling the forces of communism that very seriously threatened freedom and prosperity in Singapore as much as it over took parts of Korea, China, and Vietnam through the brutalities of insurrection and warfare. Sonny should be happy that communists and Islamicists didn't prevail in Malaysia otherwise all he would be drawing would be communist propaganda and usually contain just drawing of one man such as in North Korea.
Sonny Liew is cool man and is a comic genius as most would be snookered into believing that there was this struggling man with a comic vision wishing to express societal outrages and hopes through comic book form in sixties Singapore. Singapore though was not America and this art form media was not available for expression and it is only through neoliberalism and the free-market that help this art form and financial success of comic work to be achieved as communists would of cut Sonny's chopsticks had he been trying to draw for the public in this era. Sonny though is luckily drawing comics in 2016 and is having a blast meeting chicks and trannies all over Asia and finding it easy to get er pussy and things through his ahhh artwork and chicks with ...it. I personally like his fake news comic strip called Bukit Chapalang and Invasion which are not real comics but one imagined by Sonny Liew that this mythical comic genius of the fifties would have created and struggled to be a Singapore Charles Schulze icon. Sonny sees the sixties through the comic art of Charlie Chan Hock Chye who would of rocked the world; or at least parts of Singapore with his comic genius. Sonny imagines a great comic genies who somehow struggles when the storyteller forms a career and marriage and has little time to write storylines which was the backbone of the team as Charlie Chan Hock Chye was mainly the artist. back then but somehow still struggled to get noticed at a comic convention in San Diego by he early nineties. the career of this fake comic artist is the basis of Sonny Liew's imagination and book called "The Art Of Charle Chan Hock Chye" which would of been a great book had there actually been a dude named this and had been a career comic collaborating with a writer named Wong producing timely and productive comic strip artwork as Singapore was being transformed into a city-state nation.
