James Howard keeps saying on his podcast how his dream and for sight involves Japan becoming the first industrial society going medieval. Japan is indeed a mess thanks to the new energy scarcity the
world faces with resources and as Kuntsler has pointed out Japan built a whole country that is reliant on cheap energy. without it really Japan has no other option but to go back to traditional ways and skip the Western clothing and capitalism that is alien to their culture. Japan had a great culture before they were persuade by America to open their country to consumerism and Western finance. it was an early form of forced globalization and Japan transformed themselves quickly seeing how the greedy Europeans were resource hungry for their growing military machines.
Japan can't even consider doing what they did a few generations ago which was expand their borders and territories for their needed resources . They are too old and weak to ever be a military threat so the best thing for Japan is to close their society again and return to traditional ways. Japan's economy has been in shambles and lost for the past two decades and their future will get tougher as important resources to maintain current industry and daily life become scarce. The Japanese nation is very old and isolated so they should be able to easily adapt to any situation they are forced. Ammerica needs to pay attention because the same affects will come.
