The treatment of Tonto is enough for a name change in Washington

Cougar Face

The harassment and number of times the term "redskin" was thrown into episodes of the Lone Ranger is reason enough for the dismissing of the Washington NFL football teams nickname. I have been studying the Lone Ranger episodes and how the episodes reflect the American view of Indians in the years it ran from 1949 to 1957. I was surprised to see how many times redskin was used by the bandit bad guys of this program towards
Tonto. The Lone Ranger pretty much gets it with the way Tonto would be looked upon by certain dirty elements of the 1880's population in Texas towards the native people of the state. what is surprising that the racist redskin name didn't persist in an NFL team from Texas but that could be because the NFL didn't arrive in the Lone Star until many years after Eastern teams got to choose a nickname. If people who back the name for the Washington Redskins fail to see this term as derogatory and maybe if they watched more Lone Ranger episodes and Tonto's treatment from townspeople there can be a better understanding why some would object. The term redskin is a totally racist term and to use it as representation for a sport team is incredibly incredulous. The term even used by the founders of this football team must be questioned when looking at the beliefs of the original owners of Washington football. Most Americans if taken time to look at the nickname of the Washington redskins and the use of the word in describing Indians would agree it is malodorous. Daniel Snyder will come to the conclusion when the economic conditions arise that the NFL and public will refuse for him continuing this charade and disrespect for all these years of continuing to stubbornly hang on to this offensive name for his team. Like I said I am surprised that this nickname exists in the nations capital and not in brutal football loving red state Texas.
