JC Penny,Sears, and the American mall on their last leg together

Ed West
If Penney is struggling and along with Sears these staples of anchors for the American mall scene will be a distant memory. Anything that brings down the concept of social consumerism will be a good thing for our society in a long run and the eventual demise of these stores will be a good sign. Hopefully other stores will follow the lead and close up shop and an destructive architecture creation that was the suburban mega mall. Penny has racked up 2.4 billion in losses and no amount of state or bail out money will keep this company afloat despite the spending this company does with daily flyers advertising at halls keep the dwindling corporate newspapers barely afloat. A hundred and sixteen of these feminine stores have closed down between Sears and JC Penny and when they eventually all close these retail malls are fucked. The situation for many struggling malls is already tenuous as more and more people venture into outdoor gentrified down towns that offer so much more in a major city near them. Malls will be more and more neglected and reflected to freak show type entertainment to remain relevant and no among of glow in the card indoor golf courses and additional chain restraints will save this environmental wastelands that consist mainly of parking lots. I don't know. Maybe I could be wrong and the public will change and the appeal of going to a place that is mainly for parked cars could become a fad. Maybe they can have some cruise nights for elderly folks to bring their own hot rods on a summer day and heat up the parking decks asphalt. Anyway you look at it if these anchors have a hard time surviving maybe the concept of indoor malls needs to be examined and eventually demolished to make way for something more appealing for people to visit and spend their money.
