Comic artist Guy Delise writes several books about mocking other countries and supposedly he went to North Korea one time on a work visa for a French animation video. His stay s choreographed in his graphics arts book called "Pyongyang". Delise throughout the book tries to explore this country alone and rarely gets to talk to the average north Korean few times without the guide of his translator. Delise is amazed at how many portraits and museums the Jong dynasty pays tribute to themselves. Delise sees the volunteerism of the North Koreans as he sees many people laboriously trying to preserve and fix bridges and potholes for free in this socialist utopia. The opening of North Korea is seen a little bit as Guy Delise stays in a compound reserved for the few foreigners allowed in the country. As usual with his various other books Guy makes amusing musings of the country and how efficient a hermit nation can be when left alone for the population to be robotic. Guy gets bored quickly in this country where individualism is abhorred and people dress and look the same. The permeant constant fear of North Korean citizens being relocated to one of the re-education camps for extended periods of time for their non conformity and the oppressive terror of the state in getting their people not to question. One gets the idea that Guy was really close himself being sent to one of these camps for fucking with his guides and asking insidious questions about the cult of the Jongs and the determined (and forced) loyalty of the people. Guy pretty much sums up that the problem with the current North Korean state is they are still in a state of war with the United states and United nations and as long as South Korea is so wealthy and opposite the north will always be in a preparedness for total war and their citizens will always be the main victims of this state-sponsored paranoia.
