Gar Alperovitz kicks ass and perhaps only Noam Chomsky has done more to bring up the in excesses and wasteful spending the rich and powerful have committed to generously benefit themselves while the rest of the nation watches sports and discuss the movie revenue box office from the previous weekend.
This guy if not public enemy number one of those who defend America’s astoundingly unequal distribution of income and wealth, he is public enemy 5 or 6 of this depraved group in our society. Gus sees capital — who gets to own it, to benefit from it, and derive political power from it — as a key to both understanding and ending our staggering levels of contemporary inequality. The owners of capital get to make the decisions of how many people are hired and where they can move a company to disadvantage one group quickly overnight with this immense power they hold over the political arena. They essentially can used this power that others in society don't have, to press government for tax and other subsidy advantages to their maximum benefit increasing their wealth and campaign contributions.
