Linda McQuaid tried to enter politics in Canada and make some change that she often exposes for through various platforms. the detriment of our democratic system. Linda earned a lot of things about politics in these two years and the lengths and dirt conservative candidates backed by big energy are willing to go to get their candidate elected and into office to serve their economic issues.
She ran (unsuccessfully) as the federal NDP candidate in Toronto Centre in the 2013 byelection and again in 2015, with the dream of putting into action progressive ideas she championed as a journalist. In jumping into politics, I realized I was giving up some of the freedom she enjoyed as a columnist and author to become part of a team with a collective message. she stated that oil sands in Canada would have to remain in the ground for the climate goals ever to be reached. The remark is in line with views expressed by scientists in recent years. A 2009 paper in the journal Nature by researchers from Oxford University and elsewhere calculated that more than half the planet's proven oil, gas and coal reserves would have to be left in the ground for the world to keep global warming to below two degrees Celsius — considered a critical threshold to avoid massive climate disasters.Linda wrote recently about her runs and how she was set up for a question about an article she wrote nine years ago saying how the best the planet needed right now was keeping the oil sands in the ground in Canada. Pundtis quickly pounced on this statement of hers and it doomed her campaign. Linda showed she belief with her heart and unlike most politicians refused to pivot on this issue within Canada that is controversial and could destroy a candidate in the eyes of those wanting to continue with he fossil fuel fantasy of burning endless oil through our big SUVs and trucks. Despite her losses Linda kicks ass and brought the subject of profound energy abuse on the environment to the public and started to put more of a pressure against this endless drilling and fracking in Canada. This is a woman who stood by her convictions and refused to budge just by repeating scientific facts that this planet can't sustain continual oil sands burning into the atmosphere and expect any portions to be habitable in the neat future.
