Logo book

Troy York

Naomi Klein traces the start of brands and their influence on our society in the book "No Logo" . In this book she also details the begin inning of the backlash against the power of the logo and the stranglehold it has on parts of humanity. This is a very long book and is a bit old ow but captures the need for activism against the power of corporations and advertising agencies the method of ow they produce mass consumerism in America and the way they target a particular audience to be their brand addict. This book covers a lot of things from the nineties where brands really took off and perhaps no more powerful of a brand than Nike is discussed at lengths in this great book by Naomi This book is a classic read and the attacks on Nike and their corporate jag CEO Phil Knight are most entertaining. Nike is a company that really deserves mention for its shameful practices and Ms Kleindoes a good job reminding us why this fucking company was so targeted by early anti- brand activists. The intense brand brainwashing of Americas youth is eloquently explained and ow it was revved up in the early nineties as advertisers started looking away from the baby boomers. Putting an Mage of product coolness was like the only key that determined what would be popular from these new powerful teenage consumers of this era.  Getting access to pungent ears and eyes was essential and the shameful brand induction in education is dealt and explained in some chapters. Pretty much all things associated with corporate brands suck and this book opens eyes to why they do suck with their shameful practices and forced exposure to impressionable  minds.  Young people continue to have these fetish brands but most know no better at their age and thus is the reason why big name brands continue to have an economical influence. Brands come before working conditions and the massive profit drive can only be reduced when these workers from overseas making and enrich ending these brands decide they don't want to be so exploited anymore. They hold the real solutions in undermining the power for big clothing brands that really have Western kids sidetracked to what really matters in their young lives and an awakening against the abuses of their brains by these corporate brand masters is so very needed to this day.
