Trying to write a program where the cast are all prisoner of war inmates in a camp was very difficult in the late sixties and early seventies. The writers of Hogans Heroes had a hard time coming up with the twenty or so episodes needed to fill a season of programming and they had some cute episodes with animals two of which stand out. Actually the two might of been the only animal based episodes of the complete series. One featured a dog that Leboue had found and had run all around camp before Colonel Klink put the cabasch on a pet in a POW camp. Anyway the dog buried some important film that needed to be retrieved and given to an agent. The other episode was the monkey episode where a bombing of a local zoo had produced many animals about and once again it was little Laboue that brought back a chimp to the barracks. He dressed up the chimpanzee monkey to look like Leboue with complete beret and everything. They even named him Freddy and then used Freddy to somehow I don't recall the plot of this episode but when you have a real live baby chimpanzee as the feature you really don't need a plot. Nowadays movies will not even bother with a trained real animal and they will just draw up one on the computer where the animal was so obviously not real in the shot that it makes a mockery to the public watching this crap. So the question to ask is which Hogans Heroes episode was more cuter..the dog one or the monkey. I would have to say the one with the fucking Chimp as a dog can basically be in any program at any time period. The Monkey episode just ranks among as my favorite all time old show and episode from that era or the era of reruns.
