Raul Gallegos is an writer of Latin American affairs for Bloomberg and other business outlets and he has covered the oil crisis and Venezuela for a number of years. The country in South Aeica has always been blessed with tremendous oil reserves yet the mismanagement of this resource is directly related to the woes of this country. Raul goes through in detail how the policies of Hugo Chavez and his economic redistribution plans have practically railroaded the citizen from a competent government able to use this resource to aid other sectors in the economy which could of provided a source of economic growth for all Venezuelans. Instead as Mr. Gallegos says the government subsidized cheap gasoline for the citizens who abuse the cost of cheap fuel in many unproductive ways and the poor ability of Venezuela to shelve products and have a market-oriented economy is the focus of his book called "Crude Nation". Perhaps no other country has more problems getting enough toilet paper stocked for consumer and the number of woes Mr Gallegos goes through in this book puts blame at the socialist government of Hugo Chavez and his successor Nickolas Maduro--a former school bus driver. Raul fails to mention the greed of the Italian global corporate class of leeches though as much are a part of the big problem than supposed new government policies trying to help the massive of the poor in Venezuela which like Cuba has long been held and ruled by the international investor class. The number of layoffs and factories sitting idle in wait of parts is typical of the malfunction of this country's economy and the economic chaos continue s to divide this poor country. The author also covers the currency issues Venezuela faces and how often the paper money of choice is the dollar instead of the worthless Bolivar which many people in Venezuela see as worthless and complete a massive black market exchange involving the dollar. The agricultural industry of this country is a mess as well and as in South Africa the confiscation of productive lands that made much profit from trade has been stolen through the socialist policies of Venezuela. Raul says basically these people can't grow shit and need to import all of their food as they cannot eat oil.
