Was Bozo the Clown a creepy clown?

Gino Frobel
Bozo was the first franchise clown and hopefully the only one we will have to deal with in the near future. Bozo was on local stations and the creepiness of this clown hosting a kids show did more to destroy local programming on stations than anything else. Bozo was the epitome the world creepy and his mocking and horse kicking around in shady sketches was a marvel to behold. Bozo was huge in the late seventies and eighties perhaps the most recognizable man in the city walking down the street. The highlight of the show was the bucket challenge where bozo had a small kid try to throw golf balls in six buckets with prizes and toys increasing in value and size as they progressed.
Kids talked about each and every Bozo episode and todays kids in the Chicago area who were frequent viewer of these programs can recall events like they were honeymooner episodes. Without a doubt  thought Bozo was creepy and even if no one made mention of this fact many thought of this back then. Bozo started as a character in the late forties and the clown really hit it off being franchises much like ahhhone would franchise a Starbucks or Dunkin Donuts. In this day of the killer clown s and the endless clown pranks on YouTube that keep me up at night after viewing it is safe to say you will never ever see a creepy clown character like Bozo unless it is in a horror movie much like we see this month with another adaptation of It and Stephan King's scary movies.
