There was news the other day that the once idyllic town of South Bend , Indiana is turning pretty rapidly into another Gary, Indiana. There has been an influx of ghetto people from Gary,Detroit, and Chicago into the area over the years of from my sources many people who go back and forth piling up the local government resources and welfare. South bend is home to one of the premier private institutions of the Mid West and I wonder how many folks will want to continue to send their brainy kids to this place in the future given the rathole the city is becoming.
Following the shooting and robbery of two Holy Cross students last October the schools decided to implement a program among the three schools to provide wider access and email/text alerts whenever a crime occurs on campus. I have been to the bend in recent years and have been amazed how quickly this small college town is coming more and more to resemble President Obama's own University of Chicago. An area that is surrounded by such crime and trash must make it very hard to concentrate on studies when you are surrounded by barbaric criminal activity of the local population. I think instead of quicker information technologies for the students to share perhaps they need quicker police knowledge and transport to these crime sites when they occur. South Bend can only get worse if these liberal city leaders continue to be a magnet for losers to be drawn to from the surrounding regions and prey on the young victims of St Mary's, Holy Cross, and Notre Dame.
