Venezuela on the brink

Andy Cruz

Like in the Ukraine there is a segment of consumeristas in Venezuela that want to join the high life of Western Consumerism. These greedy folks are out to do their own type of Reagan revolution and roll back the gains for the people that Hugo Chavez installed much like republicans in America rolled back worker and people gains that were given by FDR and the new deal. The chaos in Venezuela that is building up is not a peoples protest but a protest of those right wing elements that want to create a Miami in Venezuela. They want things to go back and the free market to give them more power from a big business perspective. A Syrian conflict right at our doorstep is a real possibility and one can only look at the length of the wars in Colombia how economics can lead to major regional conflicts. president Maduro ordered capitalists to lower their prices on consumer goods in order to prevent a massive catalyst that they were trying to create. This is what is appearing to be happening in Venezuela and likewise in Ukraine. By making things expensive for the average person capitalists can help create governmental instability through market power. Its painful enough that market driven inequality has ruined peoples lives and made Venezuelan a vacuum for street crime. Venezuela is one of the most dangerous countries in the world with mass poverty that globalization and destructive monopolistic capitalism strives to create. Americans are just starting to learn what their government and business leaders have been promoting throughout the world. Looks like another coup attempt to destabilize the growing socialist movement in South America is being lead from the usual suspects up North. Student groups dreaming of living the American life will need to realize that Miami will never be allowed in Post Chavez Venezuela.
