Arianna Huffington is an outstanding journalist and known for the Huffington Post web zine that is one of the more popular sources of news for many on the Internet. What I didn't know was she had written several books and has been an investigative journalist for a number of years. One of her books dealt with the abandoning of the middle class by the nations elites in the book called "Third World America". Another doomsday America has fallen book this writing has the usual failures and betrayals of making this country a first world nation. She talks about the wonderful infrastructure we have built from electric grids, dams, sewers, water pipes, and. As e treatment facilities is being let to rot and allowed to fall apart. She talks about how people move out to exurbs and do more and more extreme commutes and at same time trains that are needed to connect communities and cities are not built like they are in China.
The blame for the failures of America is put on the power brokers and lobbyists that have taken democracy away and ruined the trust the public had for the political institution. When out take this trust you have an apathy nation of losers who just don't care anymore and do the best of their abilities to get something for nothing in life and the government. They don't even care about the degradation of employment opportunities for themselves and their kids from the traitorous members of congress that help these corporations provide good jobs to Chinese and Indians. Ariana points out this betrayal of the middle class didn't happen overnight but has been decades in the making as chief executives look at American workers in much the same way army generals looked at American Indians.  Since the Reagan Revolution the deregulation of markets have enables the destruction of the middle class so some can hoard more money they can ever spend and sit on it giving themselves the power to decide when to spend. The financial industry is also looked at as she wonders how an industry that was suppose to serve our economy has hijacked the economy and became our economy giving itself power, influence and money to donate to the candidate of their choice who will make decisions based on their needs over other basic fundamental needs of this country.
The banking industry has thus used this political power to take their class warfare more onto the American public with their bankruptcy protection roll backs and allow creditors to basically mislead their customers. Her chapter on the practices of the credit card industry is really useful and should make all reconsider using these plastic cards meant to mount up your debt and help China become your overlords. The final chapter she gives some of the usual needed things for turning this tread of America becoming a third world country. A great book and a great woman that often gets overlooked for some of her great writing and knowledge of society.
