How Herman Munster represents today's American male

Ned Baily
When I was a kid my favorite television character was Herman Munster. The child like antics of this monster beast likely made him a favorite character for several generations of young males but the older I got I saw another image of Herman Munster which was less positive. Herman Munster clearly was an early version of the self-centered new males whose child-like mannerism is difficult to erase. The selfish Herman was pretty authoritarian father in the way he asked to his  only son whose own selfish and spoiled behavior was not much different than the adult  Herman. Herman was often a judge of outward appearance often criticizing his niece Marilyn's looks and of course in general he was an awful judge of personal appearance. Herman Munster was much like American sports meatheads and while only a few episodes dealt with the growing sports addiction lifestyle of America in the sixties one shudders to think how much sports would be in a new version of the Munsters. Herman Munster was perhaps the worse character on television whose    attitudes and beliefs clearly indicated a old world Europe ancestry  that he carried over in traditions from somewhere in Eastern Europe. The temper tantrums and destructive ability of Herman Munster got a bit annoying to watch and these are two season DVDS that are collecting as much dust on my shelves as the dust in the background of this program? About the only cool thing of this show was the creepy house setting and old spooky props that really made this place seem magical and real to the viewer. As for the silly adult selfish jack of a character of Herman Munster he was too dam real version of the American male then and now
