Bill Waterson made a surprising return to the comic drawing world not to long a go with three strips for Stephan Pastis and his Pearls Before Swine syndicated comic strip. The drawings were excellent and Waterson outshone the characters with a better look and drawing of Pastis own popular comic strip. I saw these strips a d did notice that these looked very similar to Watersons drawing yet I just assumed that Pastis did these unannounced strips in tribute to one of the best and secretive comic strip artists of all time. It was announced a few weeks later that these were indeed drawn by Bill Waterson in his first published comic strip drawings since he quickly quit his popular Calvin and tiger comic strip in 1995. There is nodoubt this man must be feeling ency to return to the comic strip world knowing the future of newspapers is questionable. These strips looked so much better than the usual Pearls before Swine that I say just let Waterson take over Stephan Pastis's increasing boring comic strip with that pig and rat. I was truly amazed how much better pig and rat looked under the pen of Bill Waterson. These two comic artists have been in discussion for a while about getting Waterson to do a few strips and of course the largely huge ego of Pastis had to have himself drawn into one of these steps from his hero and mentor Bill Waterson. It was interesting g to read that Pastis decided to contact the very scared and reclusive Bill Waterson on the whim just to introduce himself and tell him what a fan he was of Calvin and Hobbess over the years. Hopefully Bill Waterson returns to the comic strip art world in the Sunday funnies as it is filled with very lame material of comic strip artists like Stephan Pastis who insist on drawing themselves not their strip.
