Howard French has traveled Africa extensively in his journalist career and he is amazed at the changes China has done in recent years in Africa. Many Chinese have settles in a various amount of African countries using their dollars and wealth to bribe local leaders intro giving them most of the major building contracts in these dirt poor countries. This new neo Liberalism Neo-colonialism actions in China as the worlds resources are dwindeling and explaned in the book called "Chinas Second Contienent". The migrating Chinese merchants will do for Africa's contient with what they have done for other Asian peoples and this is dominate the economy for themselves. Inded many Africans in such diverse African countries as Liberia, Mali, Mozambique,Angola,Ghana,Cameroon and others complain how the Chinese leave them with a few menial hard labor jobs on these projects and import a massive number of mainland Chinese. While the Chinese are not coming in with their powerful military like previous waves of colonialists their affect on the environment and local traditions has just been as devasating to Africa. Mr french captures the hostile mood in this country and the blatent disreguard and racist attitudes these Chinese immigrants have for the abilities and work ethics of the natives. The tensions in these African countries as it becomes more appearent that their governments are justy Chinese government agents that open their lands to be exploited and corrupted in the interest of creating wealth for a few Chinese will eventually develope a backplash in the political arena of these nations.
Of course the Chinese wouldn't of been able to come in and take over so much of these nations economy and development if not for a culture of corruption that has plagues Africa ever since they gained independence decades ago. Africans need to press and demand more from these sellouts that have played different ethnc groups against each other and are now using Chinese influence to allow the degradation of their continent in a massive resource extractions that promises to leave this continent even more poorer and destroyed than ever before. capitalist powerful countries have always used foreign inventment and loans to barter and gain leverage with the poorer countries and this book shows how China is using this colnial method to once again make Africans dependent on foreign occupiers who come in the name of mutual friendship and benefir but actually are on the forfront of expanding their power and influence throughout the world at the detriment of native traditional people.
